Book Club 2
Book Club 2 Convenor is Ray Haresign.
It will be held on the Last Wednesday of the month, from 2.15-3.30 p.m.
Previous Meetings:
Meeting of 29th July 2026.
First of all, Many Thanks to Roz for hosting the meeting, where I understand that you had an enjoyable afternoon and Sally’s Book ‘The Exit’ was well received by all.
It certainly made me chuckle at times.and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
With 10 attending the meeting and three e’mail comments, ‘The Exit’ scored 4.33 out of 5.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 26th August, where we will be discussing, Guy’s Choice ‘The Old Man and The Sea’

At meeting on 24th June 2026 we discussed Di’s Choice ‘ When The Cranes Fly South by Liza Ridzen
Most of us thought it was an absorbing read if not particularly enjoyable. Themes of Relationships between Parents and Sons, and with thoughts pertaining to our own lives were mentioned by many of us.
However with 7 of us attending and three e’mail comments ‘When The Cranes Fly South’ scored 3.6 out of 5
Our next meeting with be on Wednesday July 29nd where we will be discussing Sally’s Choice ‘The Exit’ by Brenda Baur

At meeting on 27th May 2026 we discussed Avril's Book Choice ‘How It Ends’ by Saskia Sargisson
General consensus was that it started off well with good characters, storyline etc but then – we all waited for ‘something to happen’ and some of us ‘speed read’ towards the ending.
However – with 8 of us attending and three e’mail comments ‘How It Ends’ scored 3.6 out of 5
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday June 24th where we will be discussing Di’s Choice – ‘When The Cranes Fly South’ by Lisa Ridzen

At meeting on 28th January 2026 there were very positive reviews of Sweet Caress by William Boyd. This book got a good overall score of 41/2 out of 5.
A good meeting on 24th September 2025 to discuss Miss Bensons Beetle. A book that was enjoyed by everyone and scored a 4.5 rating.
If you can, please come to the October meeting with a book suggestion for next year 2026! Maybe a book you have enjoyed or one you have on your reading list.
Another good meeting on 26th February 2025 to review The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah which was a very popular choice selected by Avril. This was the highest scoring book so far.
A lively meeting (28th May) to discuss Beyond the Sea by Paul Lynch. Most of us thought it was overlong and repetitive and consequently it received a rating of only 2 out of 5.
We had an enjoyable meeting on Wednesday 25th June 2025 during which Kevin O'Regan discussed his books, provided an overview of his professional career, and revealed how he goes about putting a book together. It was interesting to hear how difficult it is to get a book published.
Thanks go to Guy for arranging this visit and to Ray's wife, Mary for making the tea.
The July 2025 meeting resulted in a lively discussion about the choice of book which was, Trumpet by Jackie Kay chosen by Gillian. Thank you to those who sent their reviews.
We spent some time deciding on future reads which the group thought should include a classic.
