Next Monthly Speaker Meeting - (Posted 21/05/2026):

Thursday 18th JunePeter Gill“The Wit and Songs of Noel Coward”Noel Coward was an actor, writer, composer, director, producer, and in later life painter-and he excelled at them all. He said of himself ‘I am an enormously talented man, and there is no point in denying it’. This is a reminder of that talent and some of the wonderful songs and wit of the ‘Master’.

Call for Refreshments Organiser (Posted 11/03/2026)

For the past few years, Kathy Hodges has been organising the refreshments after the Monthly Speaker Meetings and, for those of us who attend the meetings, these refreshments have been really appreciated and provided an opportunity to meet and socialise with other U3A Members.
Unfortunately, for very personal reasons, Kathy is no longer able to fulfil this role and so, unless someone is willing to take on this function, there will no longer be any refreshments at the end of each Monthly Speaker Meeting.
The role is not too onerous - it entails buying tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits (for which you are reimbursed) when required, organising the Rota of some 20 volunteer helpers and generally overseeing the operation each month.
If one of you would be prepared to take on this role, please contact me and we can discuss the role in more detail - I have a typed up sheet of what it entails.
If we don’t get anyone to take on the role, there will be no refreshments after the Monthly Speaker Meetings!

Business Secretary

Scam Warning (Posted 07/11/2025)

A number of our members have been tricked by an email scam. These scam emails usually seem to come from someone you know, using the correct email address.  Often they initially ask you to confirm that you have received the email. If you reply, you may receive a follow on email asking you to buy gift cards on their behalf.

If you receive an email from someone you know asking you to buy gift cards for them (possibly claiming that they are indisposed for some reason), don't do it. Instead, delete the email and contact them by other means (phone, text/sms, whatsapp, but not by email) and tell them that you have received the email and that it is likely that their email address has been hacked and they need to change their email password.

For further advice re scams and how to spot them see the advice in Public Notices.

Our 'Singing for Fun' group gave a concert at the Methodist church on 2nd July. (Posted 22/07/2025)

Our 'Singing for Fun' group gave a concert at the Methodist church on 2nd July. The programme was 'Songs of the people' and included spiritual songs, sea shanties, songs of protest and worship. We also had a tribute to Ian Nixon, a long time member of our choir, and sang his favourite song, '76 Trombones'! We were pleased to see so many people from u3a; we also invited family and friends and had an audience of nearly 50. In Ian's memory we collected £134.70 for Cancer Research and for Katherine House Hospice £152.03. Thank you to everyone for your support.
If you would like to join our group the next rehearsal is Wednesday 3rd September at the Methodist Church, Brackley at 1.45pm. For more details see the Singing for Fun webpage.
